As we enter the final month of the year, I’m reminded of something many advisors overlook: December is not a slowdown month — it’s a strategy month. While clients are thinking about family, holidays, and year-end finances, they are also unusually open to conversations about long-term planning, taxation, and financial security. For those of us in the life insurance business, this creates a window of opportunity that is both meaningful and time-sensitive.

Clients are reviewing portfolios, assessing gains and losses, considering charitable contributions, and preparing for the coming tax year. In these discussions, you — their trusted advisor — are uniquely positioned to shift the conversation toward risk management, protection planning, and legacy strategies that are often neglected during busier seasons. Remember, nobody wakes up in January regretting a smart decision they made in December.

This month is also an ideal time to revisit older policies. Many clients are sitting on contracts written ten, fifteen, even twenty years ago. Their financial picture may have evolved, their goals may have shifted, and their coverage may no longer match the realities of their lives or businesses. Policy audits, supplemental coverage, conversions, and — when appropriate — life settlement evaluations can open the door to solutions that create tremendous value for both clients and advisors.
