About our speaker: Throughout his entire playing career, Paul Azinger was regarded as one of the premier players on TOUR, notching 12 PGA TOUR wins, and one major championship which he captured at the 1993 PGA Championship. Azinger’s contributions to golf don’t end with his playing career, as one of his most memorable accomplishments was captaining the 2008 US Ryder Cup team to a win at Valhalla CC in Louisville, KY. He was widely credited for his captaining style, which included reimagining how the team practiced, how pairings are determined, and general team chemistry – changes which saw the US re-capture the Ryder Cup for the first time in nearly a decade under his leadership.

After winning the 1993 PGA Championship, Azinger was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. After treatment he received the Ben Hogan Award in 1995, given to the professional golfer who remains active in the sport despite serious illness or physical handicap.

Off the course, Azinger began a new phase of his career in the 2019 season as NBC’s lead golf analyst, replacing Johnny Miller as voice of NBC/Golf Channel coverage, which includes the FedExCup Playoffs and the Open Championship. He is also continuing his role with FOX calling the U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open. Prior to these commitments, Azinger was the lead analyst for ESPN’s golf coverage from 2006-2015.
