Insights from Ben Bernanke post Fed Meeting

On the heels of the March FOMC meeting, we are joined by Ben Bernanke, who served two terms as Chair of the Federal Reserve, from 2006 to 2014. As leader of the Federal Reserve during a momentous time of economic and financial crisis, he offers keen insight and analysis of the current global economic landscape—and challenges facing the world today.

Chair, The Federal Reserve System (2006-2014)

Dr. Ben S. Bernanke is a Distinguished Fellow in residence with the Economic Studies Program at the Brookings Institution. From February 2006 through January 2014, he was Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, having been appointed to that position by both Presidents Bush and Obama. Dr. Bernanke also served as Chairman of the Federal Open Market Committee, the System’s principal monetary policymaking body.

Before his appointment as chairman, Dr. Bernanke was chairman of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, from June 2005 to January 2006. He was a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System from 2002 to 2005.

From 1994 to 1996, Dr. Bernanke was the Class of 1926 professor of Economics and Public Affairs at Princeton University. He was the Howard Harrison and Gabrielle Snyder Beck Professor of Economics and Public Affairs and chair of the Economics Department at the university from 1996 to 2002. Dr. Bernanke had been a professor of Economics and Public Affairs at Princeton since 1985.

Before arriving at Princeton, Dr. Bernanke was an associate professor of Economics (1983-85) and an assistant professor of Economics (1979-83) at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. His teaching career also included serving as a visiting professor of Economics at New York University and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Dr. Bernanke has published many articles on a wide variety of economic issues, including monetary policy and macroeconomics, and he is the author of several scholarly books and two textbooks.

Seema is Chief Strategist at Principal Global Investors. Based in London, she oversees global market strategy and advises investment staff across the firm in making economically sound asset allocation calls. She is responsible for the creation of global economic macro and secular event research, closely monitoring global central bank policy and political developments. Seema is a regular participant in conferences and forums speaking about global macro market issues. She is frequently quoted by the financial news media and appears regularly on CNBC and Bloomberg TV. Seema joined the firm in 2010, previously working as a strategist within Principal Global Fixed Income. Prior to joining Principal, Seema served as an economist at Capital Economics. She also worked with the macro consulting group at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and as an economist at HM Treasury. She received a master’s degree and bachelor’s degree with honours in economics from the London School of Economics.

Tim Hill is head of the firm’s U.S. client group, which includes the firm’s sales, service, marketing, and product teams. In this role, he leads 100+ employees covering all wealth advisory, institutional, consultant, and client service functions for Principal Global Investors (PGI). Hill brings 25 years of industry experience to the firm and as a member of PGI’s Operating Committee, Tim helps to shape and execute the vision and strategic planning for the firm. Prior to assuming this role, from January 2007 to September 2018, Hill was responsible for U.S. Wealth Advisory distribution activities to wirehouses, regional and independent firms, as well as starting the DCIO effort at Principal. From March 2003 to December 2006, he was a divisional manager overseeing 10 regional directors who were responsible for the distribution of WM Group of Funds a division of WAMU, in the central part of the United States. Prior to that, he held various sales and senior sales management roles at Edward Jones, and Alliance Bernstein. Tim is a member of the Sales and Marketing Committee of the ICI and has been featured in numerous industry publications, CNBC and the New York Times. Education: Tim received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration at Jamestown College. He holds Series 7, 24, 26, and 63 licenses.
