One of the first things that comes to mind when February rolls around is Valentine’s Day.
Hearts are everywhere and of course, they symbolize Love. As I am writing this post, I am on an airplane on the way home from a conference that I just attended. I am a long standing member of this group of top life insurance producers in the country who meet to learn from each other and share ideas on how to be better at what we do.
In addition to sharing ideas on how to sell life insurance, we heard many stories about real life situations where life insurance actually saved lives. Think about that for a second, Life Insurance SAVED lives? How does that happen? Isn’t it too late at that point? How did it save lives?
What I am talking about is what comes next (after the life insurance claim is paid). People buy life insurance for one of two reasons; to protect someone, or, in some cases, some thing, such as a charity. But, the overwhelming reason why someone ultimately purchases life insurance is because they are trying to protect someone they love.
Life insurance can do many things to protect the ones we love. It can be…
- the payoff of a mortgage so a family is not uprooted from their home
- the continuance of income to maintain a lifestyle
- the fulfillment of a college education for children
- the retirement nest egg that should have been there for a surviving spouse
- a living legacy to grandchildren
- a charitable legacy
The list goes on and on.
Ultimately, it preserves or saves lives. It’s the single act of love that protects those we care about the most.
So, with love in the air during February, think about Valentine’s Day and what it can truly represent. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying to go out and buy life insurance instead of chocolates or roses.

I’m sure that would not go over so well.
Rather, I am merely suggesting that Life Insurance is the most unselfish way to express the love that you have to the ones (or that special something) you care about the most.
And don’t forget, just as important, if not more important, is making sure that Wills are established and updated regularly.
It’s out there. Love is in the air. Think about it.
